A Session in Two Parts - the Popek Family

The plan with the Popek family was to start at their house, then take the C-train to downtown and get some images in the spectacularly colourful Plus-15 near the Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts. Great idea, except for the epic snowstorm that blew in that morning. We still did some shots in the house as planned - we live in the same neighbourhood, which was uber-convenient - but decided the likelihood of actually making it out of Tuscany to get downtown was pretty low. Rescheduled to a few weeks later, we met up downtown and had a blast with the multi-colour stripes lining my favourite Plus-15 (everyone has a favourite Plus-15, right?) and a nearby mural. Here are a few of the resulting images:

Quick Headshots

My sister-in-law, Brittney, needed a headshot for her work, and I was, of course, glad for the opportunity to make a portrait. I put together a quick single-light set-up in my kitchen, using the white pantry door as a backdrop; it's amazing how you can make almost anywhere look like a studio. Brittney came in looking great, which made my job easy, and we were both really pleased with the results:

The Gedderts

Ok, Baker Park is now officially my favourite place to shoot. Having been there three times in the past couple of weeks, I'm thrilled by the number of different looks available within an easy walk, and I've still only explored a small part of the whole. It sure doesn't hurt when the light's amazing, as it was when I visited the park with the Geddert family. Add in the fact that the kids, James and Olivia, are natural models in front of the camera, and their parents, Deirdre and Kevin are perpetually beaming with pride, and you've got yourself a fine setup for some great family images.

The Bodners

The Bodner family brought me to another new location for this awesome autumn shoot: Research Park, on the northernmost edge of the University of Calgary campus, is a leafy wonderland with lots of tall trees and rolling hills. You couldn't ask for a better place to do a fall photo shoot, and the Bodners came ready to rock. Other than three year-old Charlie's unfortunate encounter with a sleeping wasp, this was a wonderful October morning - especially the homemade cookie break!
